KINGSMAN EXCLUSIVE: Cory Provost Elected BCA Representative... But Can He Serve?
By Michael A. Harris Staff Writer
While there is no question that Provost defeated PHD floor leader Henri Chalouh, according to the BCA charter, a student must have been elected to the Assembly in order to serve on the BCA Committee. Despite being elected to the Assembly last spring, Provost was deemed ineligible to serve and forced to forfeit his seat.
Assembly Speaker Pinni Bohm (PHD) said that he has e-mailed BCA Chairman Michael Hewitt and is awaiting his word on the matter, but added that he was told by former Speaker Jonathan Judge (PHD) that Hewitt would say that Provost is ineligible.
"I have been told by [multiple] former speakers of the assembly that I am required to overturn the election as a result of this technicality," said Bohm. "Since there are two weeks until the next BCA meeting, I have decided to take some time with a verdict to make sure that the verdict is absolute and supported by all." There is precedent on this matter. During the 48th CLAS Assembly, two members who had been elected to the Assembly and sworn in later resigned, but then were reappointed and elected to BCA, only to be deemed ineligible to serve on the grounds that they had forfeited their seats.
As of print time, Provost had not responded to multiple E-mails requesting comment for this story. |
